HER son has designs on making it big in music and her husband is about to take his popular art talks on tour – and Imogen Sheeran is adding a flourish to the careers of both.

The 51-year-old is the mother of Atlantic Records music star Ed Sheeran and wife of art historian and lecturer John Sheeran.

She began making jewellery – some themed on liqourice allsorts – to sell at Ed’s shows last summer.

They proved extremely popular with his fans – and have even been worn and promoted on national television by T4 presenter Jameela Jamil.

Now, Mrs Sheeran, from Framlingham, is using her skills to provide the perfect accompaniment to her husband’s forthcoming series of art talks.

“I started making jewellery after the funding was cut for a youth arts programme I was working for,” she said.

“It needs a good eye and a bit of dexterity and I started to work on some of my own designs.

“I made some liquorice allsort bracelets for Ed to start with and they went down very well.

“The people who come to John’s art talks are lovely so I thought about doing something for them as well.”

Mr Sheeran, 53, a former curator of Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, has held lectures in Framlingham about the history of art for several years – and is now taking them on tour to venues in Woodbridge, Sudbury and Stowmarket.

The first in the series is on the early Renaissance, which has provided Mrs Sheeran with plenty of inspiration.

“The pieces are inspired by the aesthetics of the artwork, the colours and the themes. I picked up a feel for the period,” said the mother-of-two.

Some of her necklaces, bracelets and earrings are made using recycled materials, including beads handcrafted by women’s co-operatives in East Africa.

Mrs Sheeran crafts the jewellery by hand and has even begun to make pieces to complement lines and lyrics by Ed, a rising singer-songwriter who signed a six-album deal with Atlantic Records earlier this year.

“I’ve got two themes to my jewellery – fun and funky, which is the pieces I make for Ed, and then grown-up and gorgeous.

“It’s lovely to be doing it for John and Ed and it’s really a labour of love. My motto for the jewellery is ‘handmade with love’.

“Everything I make is a one-off – so no-one else will have one of them.”

Prices for the pieces range between £3 and £35 and can be purchased at www.sheeranshop.com.
