Framlingham Castle was charged upon by sword-wielding knights as families soaked up the fun of the historic site’s ‘siege’.

Visitors were given a taste of a Norman battle, with soldiers dressing new recruits in armour and tabards before picking weapons and fighting.

Younger children had the chance to learn some daring combat skills and show off their new talents in the castle’s arena.

There were also less violent historical re-enactments, with medieval storytellers regaling crowds with stories in costume and talks on how knights of the time would set up camp or prepare before a battle.

The day took on the narrative of performances where audiences could meet the garrison troops considering rebelling against the king of the castle and built towards an exciting finale when the troops finally lay siege to the castle walls.
