Ferocious storms which lit up the skies of Suffolk and Essex over the weekend have been captured by amateur and professional photographers across the region.

This weekend storms brewed all over the county and lightning has struck more than twice. A lot of pictures demonstrating this powerful electric force this weekend have been submitted by our iwitness users.

Other images, such as these taken by professional photographer Nigel Pepper in Frinton-on-Sea, are the results of hours of waiting for the perfect shot.

Mr Pepper said: “After photographing the rapidly approaching storms which were being pushed up on a strengthening southerly wind, I then experienced the terrifying hissing sound of a lightning streak which passed incredibly close over my head, causing an immediate deafening crack of thunder indicating that activity was overhead.”

You can see more of the weekend’s lightning pictures in our gallery.
