African students attending a Suffolk college were able share their heritage with schoolmates and teachers during a cultural celebration held earlier this week.
Framlingham College’s African Day has been welcomed for broadening students’ cultural horizons with a look into the customs and history of the world’s second largest continent.
Four students with Nigerian and Kenyan heritage presented some “delightful and personal” insights into life in those countries today.
Those students, along with many of the staff, also dressed in brightly coloured traditional African dress, while they discussed the history of the African union and enjoyed a lunch of authentic regional cuisine.
“It certainly added some colour to a wintry morning and gave everyone a greater appreciation of African culture and customs,” said a spokesman for the school.
Among the teachers to embrace the African dress was Susan Wessels, the school’s senior deputy head, and a former South African Olympic hockey player.
