The organisers behind a fun run in a Suffolk seaside resort have claimed the event was a “resounding success.”

Hundreds of people took part in the 36th annual Felixstowe fun run, organised by the town’s rotary club, saw runners do as many one-mile laps along the seafront and clifftops as possible in an hour.

Those who took to the challenge were cheered on by specatators, helping runners on their way.

Mike Watkin, director of the fun run committee, said: “It went very well, all things considered.

“It was a resounding success.”

Mr Watkin said the weather was kind to the runners, with dry conditions and a cooling sea breeze.

“We’re not quite sure yet about amounts and figures yet but we had the same sort of numbers as we’ve had in previous years,” he added.

Money raised from the event on behalf of the rotary club was going to Build On Over-Looked Sporting Talent (Boost), which champions the disabled and disadvantaged, inspiring them to overcome their challenges through the power of sport.

Runners were also able to raise money for their own causes, including junior sports teams, who ran to raise cash for their own kits.

Mr Watkins stressed the event was not about competition, but about taking part and having fun, while raising funds.

“No one makes anything about winning, it’s about having fun and doing good for your cause at the same time,” he said.

“Felixstowe and the immediate area always benefit from the run.

“It’s fundraising, but it’s fundraising for multiple causes, and hopefully people had fun too.

“It’s the taking part that counts.

“Thank you to all the runners for taking part and to local businesses, advertisers and sponsors for supporting us.

“We rely very heavily on their goodwill.”
