Paragliding at Corton Cliffs

Paragliding at Corton Cliffs

WHILE many of us have chosen to avoid the biting winds of recent days, a few hardy souls took advantage on the Suffolk coast.

A group of paragliding enthusiasts were captured soaring along the cliffs at Corton, near Lowestoft, by one of our many iwitness subscribers.

Regular contributor nicko1 posted the fascinating images at suffolk.iwitness24.co.uk – our online resource for readers to send photos and videos of what is happening near them.

The paragliders in these pictures braved freezing-cold temperatures to achieve some deft airborne manoeuvres along the coastline.

Several walkers watched the spectacle, caught on camera by nicko1, who said the paragliders can only fly over the Corton cliffs on easterly winds. He added: “It was very peaceful watching these men floating around like snow flakes.”

Pilots use a hollow fabric wing to gain lift and stay in the air and can fly for several hours in the right conditions.

Paragliders launch into the wind from an elevated position to generate enough air pressure to inflate the wing.
