More than 400 competitors and about 2,000 spectators turned out for Sudbury Rowing Club’s 134th International Regatta.

Taking place yesterday, the event involved a 650m rowing course along the River Stour.

Competitors had come from far and wide, with one from a Dutch club.

While they enjoyed the racing from Friars Meadow spectators were catered for with barbecue food, a hog roast, home-baked cakes and a selection of locally-brewed beer and real ales. There were also stalls, children’s activities, and live music at the event, which continued until 7pm.

Mike Arnott, chairman of Sudbury Rowing Club, said: “People come to this regatta because they know they are going to have a fun day and good day out and it’s a beautiful place to come. We are very pleased.”

Any profits made from the event, which is sponsored by research and marketing agency Mackman, go back into the club.
