West Suffolk turned into Middle Earth this weekend as fantasy fans young and old immersed themselves in Lord of the Rings - including two especially unfriendly faces.

Two new orcs were the star attractions at the West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village RingQuest event, which brought J.R.R Tolkien’s fantastic tale to life.

The village’s former orc, Guttrott The Unclean, hit the headlines after one mum claimed he was too scary on the village’s Facebook page.

However, backed by an EADT poll that overwhelmingly found Guttrott was good family fun, West Stow has moved to replace him with two brand new baddies, with a competition to name the dastardly duo launched this weekend.

“I’m afraid Guttrott had to go,” said Lance Alexander, St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s TIC and heritage operations manager.

“All that fame went to his head and he became far too big for his troublesome boots.

“As a result, Guttrott The Unclean has now been posted to the misty mountains and instead, we have two brand new Orcs, which we have to say, are quite sensational.”

It was the second time this year West Stow had hosted a Lord of the Rings-themed event, which included an adventure trail for people to follow in the footsteps of Frodo Baggins and co.

There was also a live birds of prey event and a storytelling and poetry competition.

The A14 Orwell Bridge eastbound is set to be closed for “several hours” this morning after a serious crash, police have said.

Rail commuters face a morning of disruption due to a signalling fault between Norwich and Stowmarket.

Ed Sheeran says the injuries he suffered in a recent bicycle accident could have put an end to his guitar playing if he had battled through the pain to perform.

Fans have a big role to play in the “massive” East Anglian derby this weekend – and must cheer on the Blues all the way to victory.

A man reported missing to Suffolk Constabulary which called out the police helicopter to help the search has been found.

A much-loved statue could be back on public view soon after an application was submitted for a new display site.
