A HOARD of Royal items including Princess Margaret’s Rolls Royce, handwritten letters from Lady Diana and a piece of Wills and Kate’s wedding cake are set to go under the hammer.

Buyers from across the globe are expected to turn out to the special sale being held at Colchester-based auctioneers Freeman Dansie next Tuesday.

The Rolls Royce, which was used by the Princess from 1980, comes complete with a blue police light on its roof and fittings for the Royal Crown Shield and flag mast. It is expected to fetch at least £32,000.

A collection of letters, cards and gifts from Princess Diana to her late dresser Fay Appleby are also going on sale.

A silver apple - commissioned by the Princess to mark her first trip to New York and given to Ms Appleby, who accompanied her - is to be sold for around £3,000, while a Halcyon Days enamel Easter egg box has been priced at £300.

Senior auctioneer James Grinter said the cards and letters could each fetch around £500.

He said: “We hold a specialist Royal auction every year. It started when we sold a collection of items belonging to the Queen Mother’s butler, William Tallon.

“Ever since then we’ve been inundated with more and more Royal items to sell.

“There’s a lot of interesting things going on sale this time so we’re very excited - there’s been a lot of international interest.”

Other Royal items include some of Queen Victoria’s night dresses, worth up to £600 each.

A viewing is being held at the auction house in Severalls Business Park on Saturday morning and all day on Monday.

The auction will take place on Tuesday at 10am.
