10 year old Sydney Way from Framlingham gets her head shaved in aid of charity.

A brave young girl from east Suffolk has donated her thick golden locks to poorly children who lost theirs through illness.

Sydney Way, 10, underwent the radical makeover at her home in Framlingham on Saturday, raising more than £300 for St Elizabeth Hospice to say thanks for the care offered to her grandmother Patricia Way before her death.

The freshly cut strands were also bagged up and sent to Wigs for Kids, a charity helping children who have lost their hair through chemotherapy, alopecia and other conditions.

Proud mother Jessica Berry, who performed the chop with a pair of family clippers, said Sydney was nervous about having it all lopped off, but “really excited” afterwards.

“She is very happy to have had it done and thinks she will keep it short from now on,” she said.

“We are all so proud of her and think it’s great that it’s been done for such a brilliant cause.”

“The hospice was such a friendly, calm place for her nan and it wasn’t like a hospital at all.”

Sydney, who attends Sir Robert Hitcham’s Primary School, will be out collecting funds for the charity on Saturday morning, outside its shop in Market Hill, Framlingham.
