Nearly 8,000 dog lovers flocked to the grounds of Crix Hall in Hatfield Peverel on Sunday to enjoy some canine capers at the third Essex Dog Day.
They were treated to a succession of demonstrations in the main ring including a sheepdog masterclass from David Seamark and his sheepdogs and display of canine waltzing from the Top Lodge Dancing Dog Team.
Competition was keen among the hundreds of dogs in the show rings. The cup for Best in Show went to a rescue dog from Romania called Lucky. “It’s the first time she’s won anything,” said her owner Rosie Bell from Maldon. “We were going to train her and then find her a good home but then we couldn’t bear to part with her.”
The event raised a record £50,000 for PARC-Essex, the play and resource centre in Great Notley Country Park for children and young adults with additional needs.
Dawn Simmons of PARC Essex said: “The money will go towards keeping this vital service going.”
