PUPILS at a Suffolk school will take to the stage today for the last of three performances of a classic musical.

The adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, set in 19th-century France, is being played out by youngsters at Thomas Mills High School, in Framlingham.

The tale of passion, sacrifice and redemption has been a stage hit for years and an adaptation is due to bet a big-screen release next month.

It charts the journey of French peasant and paroled prisoner Jean Valjean and his search of salvation while pursued by a police inspector, Javert.

The curtain falls on the Thomas Mills production this evening, following two nights of performances to sold-out audiences.

The cast is made up of 60 pupils from year eight to 13.

The school’s director of music and conductor, Richard Hanley described the performance as “very demanding”, with all the dialogue being sung.

Jake Waddell plays Valjean, while Chloe Simpson takes the role of tragic Fantine.

Hal Keys-Holloway plays Javert and Maisie Hulbert appears as Fantine’s daughter Cosette.

Bailey Bandix-Hickman, and Maddie Brooks play Monsieur and Madame Thénardier.
