Alliances were drawn and broken in the lead up to the Clash of Knights at Framlingham Castle this weekend as massed ranks of armoured combatants met head-on.

English Heritage took visitors back to the Anglo-Norman period by staging competitive historical combat with different rounds of competition testing precision and power.

The only rules in Clash of Knights were no kicking, biting or gouging - everything else was fair game.

Visitors could also interact with medieval folk as they went about their daily lives in the encampment. Budding young knights even got to test their bravery and burn off energy in battle drills.

Despite the threat of poor weather today, Rebecca Hornby, assistant events manager at English Heritage said that Clash of Knights would be one of the highlights of the summer events season at Framlingham Castle.

A cyclist rode through a red light and turned left while I was walking the dog this week. It was 6.20am, there was no other traffic so no risk but, officially, the cyclist had broken the law.
