Waves deflected by the seawall, proved a spectacular sight in Lowestoft.

The real threat may have passed but high tide was still an occasion today.

Andrew Easton took this photo, and said: “The seawall did its job well though, and very little water made it over the wall.

“Slightly to the north at Gunton Beach, where the seawall ends a large flood lagoon remaining from the surge tide the night before shows what the Denes would have looked like without it.”

In Felixstowe, teams have been checking the flood defences and beach hut owners have been surveying the damage.

Others went down to the water’s edge to see the waves close up.
