Dignitaries from across Suffolk have been welcomed to a church for a town’s Christmas carol service.
Hundreds of people packed into St Peter and St Mary’s Church in Stowmarket last night for the service which was read by Reverend Michael Eden.
Councillors sat in aisles surrounded by Christmas trees which are part of the church’s annual festival, claimed to be the biggest in the country.
Visitors could give a donation to town mayor Vera Waspe’s chosen charities: the church’s own 3R’s Project, 1331 Stowmarket Squadron Air Training Corps and the Stowmarket and District Trefoil Guild.
Music was provided on the night by the Combined Churches Choir and refreshments were laid on by Stowmarket Town Council after the service.
