PUPILS at an Ipswich independent school have found an unusual way of recycling their old plastic bottles.

Members of the gardening club at Orwell Park School are constructing their very own greenhouse – made entirely from soft drink bottles, all fitted to a wooden frame.

The greenhouse is being built in the school garden at the foot of the world-famous observatory, built in 1874 by Colonel Tomline.

A school spokesman said: “The red brick building and its giant telescope are still used by The Orwell Astronomical Society, local youth organisations and other schools in the area.

“Now at the foot of the tower is a new iconic building being built by the pupils of the gardening club and made out of over 1,500 soft drink bottles, and a wooden frame.”

The project is being overseen by Nick Mathews and John Haile, the school’s design and technology teachers and is due to be finished by Easter in time for spring planting.
