Winds damage Waterfront buildings
Gale force winds damaged Ipswich Waterfront buildings, and Key Street was closed when a wall collapsed spilling bricks onto the road.
Exterior cladding on upper floors at The Mill apartments, overlooking the marina, were ripped off by the high winds.
Nearby old brick walls fronting Key Street were blown over, making this road dangerous, and this part of the one way system was closed by police.
Also hoardings were blow over and, with the safety of other old buildings nearby in doubt, police closed the road further adding to traffic delays in the town.
Police also stood by warning pedestrians to stay away from derelict building alongside the quayside as workmen taped off some areas as a precaution.
Alex Leader, of agents Savills, confirmed the damaged upper part of The Mill building was currently unoccupied.
“The managing agents and the receivers have men on site. The upper part of The Mill is so high it is going to take the full force of the wind.”
