The bird – a rhea – had been spotted in Eyke and also near Campsea Ashe and Marlesford.

However, after being shot with a tranquiliser dart by the RSPCA last night, the bird later died.

A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: “We have been informed today that the Rhea bird which was rescued by the RSPCA yesterday in Eyke near Woodbridge has sadly died.

“We do not know what the cause of it’s death may have been it could have been suffering from an illness before it was rescued by us.

“It is obviously a very sad ending for all those who were involved in the rescue.”

  • It was a tranquilser dart not a straight bullet, much similar to like us going for an operation, puts us to sleep whilst it is performed. Would you rather have seen the animal safe in a home, where it made it until it sadly died over night, or having it over someones bonnet on the main road, where some person could of been killed, or on the train, where it was eye witnessed, stood on the train track, more deaths there as well. You make your decisions?

  • They don't know what the cause of death was. Being shot by the RSPCA may have something to do with it. What does the C stand for in the acronymic name of this organisation?
