Great Cornard/Acton: Fire crews tackle morning blazes

Fire crews from Sudbury were called to tackle two fires in West Suffolk this morning.
One appliance was sent to a car fire in Scofield Court, Great Cornard, at 1.23am.
The crew used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire, which also affected two brick garages.
A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said police were called due to the “suspicious nature” of the cause of fire.
The stop was received at 1.44am.
And in Newmans Green, Acton, an appliance from Sudbury and one from Long Melford attended the scene of a fire at 8.38am, where approximately 20 tonnes of straw bales were well alight.
Eight large rakes called chromes were used to extinguish the fire, along with on hose reel.
The fire was under control at 10.22am, but crews continued to remain on the scene damping down for some time afterwards and were back at base by 11.44am.
