A Suffolk pre-school has been assessed as ‘good’ by the education watchdog – six months after it was said to be ‘inadequate’.

Great Finborough and Buxhall Under-Fives, in Hall Road, near Stowmarket, was given the good rating by Ofsted, citing “significant improvements” since the last inspection, which took place over the summer.

When the rating by Ofsted was given, parents said the inadequate rating did not reflect their views.

The latest report says: “The management team demonstrates a strong commitment to achieving excellence in all areas.

“Partnerships with parents are friendly and trusting. Parents are encouraged to remain involved in their children’s learning, both in the pre-school and at home.

“Children are happy and settled. They feel safe and secure in their relationships with staff.

“They develop close emotional attachments, confidently seeking out staff to share in their play.”

The report adds that staff at the pre-school also plan effectively for the outdoor environment and that teaching strategies meet children’s individual learning styles. Delia Prior, the pre-school’s leader, said that following the inspection in the summer that parents had joined the pre-school committee, and supported the pre-school despite the ‘inadequate’ rating.

She added: “The inspector said how wonderful we were. The children are thriving – the staff, children and parents are a team and we have worked together.

“The report reflects how good we are as a team.

“Thank-you to the parents for their support. It’s like we’re a big family – they said so many nice things about us and saying they were behind us.”
