Knitters got together in Sudbury at the weekend for the first meeting of the town’s “Greeniversity”.

The idea of the initiative is to bring people who have a skill together with those that want to learn it in a social and informal setting. Other events planned for this year include sessions on vegetable gardening and composting, felting, pruning and keeping chickens.

The group is keen to hear from people with other skills people might find useful.

Organiser Joanne Main said: “I want to stress it is very informal and we have a laugh. Passing on skills in this way can build local resilience and help people lead more sustainable lives.”

She added: “It also helps keep old skills alive. There’s a huge skills gap and a lot of people’s mums haven’t taught the younger generation how to knit.”
