Police have found a body at the home of a man who failed to turn up at court to face child sex offence charges.

Martin Knock, of Hartest, near Bury St Edmunds, was due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday for the first day of his case.

The 49-year-old, of The Row, Hartest, had previously denied 10 charges of assaulting a girl under the age of 13 between July 2007 and July 2010.

The alleged offences were said to have happened in Lavenham.

Knock had also denied three charges of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration between July 2007 and July 2009.

A spokesman for Suffolk police confirmed that officers went to a property in The Row, Hartest, at about noon yesterday, where a man was found dead.

The spokesman added: “The man’s death at this stage is being treated as unexplained but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

“Formal identification of the man has not taken place – therefore police are not able to confirm any details about the deceased man.”

The coroner has been informed.
