Police are set to investigate a suspicious fire which started in an empty factory in north Essex.

Crews were called to Main Road, Upper Dovercourt, Harwich, just after 7.40pm yesterday.

Firefighters arriving at the scene reported that the first floor of the building was heavily smoke-logged.

Breathing apparatus were worn so crews could get close to the fire with two hose reels used to tackle the blaze in the two-storey building, measuring 209m by 46m.

The fire was under control just before 8.50pm.
