Kyle Ogilvie, of Station Lane, Harwich, was found guilty following a four-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court and is due to be sentenced in late January.

The assault happened in Mill Lane, Harwich, at about 2am on Sunday, May 6, this year when the then 20-year-old victim was walking home.

He became involved in a fight with Ogilvie, who had been at a house nearby. Ogilvie stabbed the victim in the head.

The handle broke off from the knife and the victim was taken to hospital. He was later transferred to the Royal London Hospital where, thanks to the skills of surgeons, he survived and is now recovering from his ordeal.

Following a detailed investigation by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, Ogilvie was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Simon Parkes, said: “Just carrying a weapon is idiotic. Taking one to a fight is pure madness.

“Ogilvie said that he had consumed so much alcohol that he cannot remember the incident. The drink and the knife made a toxic combination.

“The speed with which he was arrested, with the assistance from the local community, means he will now be imprisoned for some time to reflect on his actions.”

  • Message to the Courts: Please lock this thug up for life. Why should decent members of the public have to put up with this sort of trash on our streets?
