A clergyman is due to appear in court next month after he was charged with defrauding a church in west Suffolk.

Ian Finn, who was arrested at his home address in Haverhill in March, has now been charged with one count of fraud by abuse of position relating to offences committed between June 2007 and March 2014.

It is alleged that more than £13,000 was dishonestly gained from the St Mary The Virgin Church in the town.

The 55-year-old man from Hopton Rise in Haverhill has been released on police bail prior to appearing at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 16.

John Howard, spokesman for the Church of England in Suffolk, said: “This matter is with Suffolk Constabulary and the courts and it is therefore inappropriate to comment at this stage.”
