Man charged with child porn offences

A 41-year-old man has been charged with of making indecent images of children following a National Crime Agency (NCA) operation in October last year.

The operation saw warrants executed across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk with a number of people being arrested on suspicion of being involved in the distribution of indecent images of children.

Richard Jones, a spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said: “Anthony Johnson, of Chestnut Close, Haverhill, has been charged with four counts of making indecent images of children and is now due to appear at West Suffolk Magistrates Court in Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday, April 8.”

After the raids the NCA said a total of 24 arrests had been made across East Anglia which took place between October 18 and October 24.

One of those was a school caretaker from Suffolk, although he had since been released from bail with no further action to be taken against him.

Shortly after the raids Suffolk police said a 43-year-old man and a 61-year-old man from the Beccles area were arrested as well as a 41-year-old man from Haverhill, a 39-year-old man from Ipswich, a 31-year-old man from Hadleigh and a 48-year-old man from Stowmarket.

A total of 29 warrants were conducted at premises across the five counties.

All of those arrested were suspected of being involved in the distribution of indecent images of children.

Six people were arrested in Norfolk, with another interviewed under caution. They included a man in his 20s, a man in his 30s, a man in his 40s, a man in his 50s and two men and one woman in their 60s from the Breckland, Norwich and Great Yarmouth areas.

One of the men and a woman had no further police action taken against them.

Four others suspects were detained in Cambridgeshire.

Speaking about the operation a spokeswoman from the NCA said some of those arrested were in positions of trust. She added the NCA provided 30 officers to assist forces with searches and forensically examining technology that was seized.
