Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses after the post box, attached to a pole, was seized from New Road, Helmingham, between 1.30pm on Monday and 12pm yesterday.

The post box is described as red, cast-iron and square.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said the force believes it contained post at the time of the theft.

“The postman would have emptied the post box at lunch time for the day. It was stolen some time after that and it is believed it contained letters when it was taken,” she said.

Witnesses or people with information relating to this incident are urged to call police on 101.
