Holbrook Academy, formerly known as Holbrook High School, has climbed 12 places in the league table rankings for GCSE achievements in Suffolk – and now sits in 18th position.
The school improved its results for five A* to C grades including English and maths to 61per cent in comparison to 57pc the previous year.
The results push the academy over both the national and Suffolk averages.
Nicola Shelley, deputy headteacher, said: “This is only a start on our journey of improvement. We are confident our results in 2013 and 2014 will be even better.”
Holbrook Academy was put in special measures after an Ofsted inspection last April where inspectors found the school’s performance to be inadequate in all categories.
A follow-up visit by inspectors in November revealed there was not longer an inadequate teaching but it was likely the school would remain in special measures until April 2014.
Chairman of governors Jane Gould added: “We were delighted to see our 2012 results at Holbrook Academy and we congratulate our students, parents and staff whose hard work lies behind the achievement.”
