A small high welfare dairy operation which launched a Crowdfunding campaign to help with the costs of moving to a new site has already raised more than £1,500 of the £5,000 it needs.

Fiona Provan’s Calf at Foot Dairy has to leave its current home at Hollesley Bay, and has appealed for help over the internet towards the costs of moving to its new home at Home Farm, Somerleyton, near Lowestoft.

The Calf at Foot Dairy Crowdfunding Campaign was set up by customers and supporters of the dairy to help the micro dairy with the costs incurred by moving to their new home, as well as fitting out the new site with essential field shelters and bottling shed.

Crowdfunding is a new way of raising money for a project online by asking a large number of people each for a small amount of money, offering rewards in exchange for their pledges.

Less than 24 hours from the launch of the three week Crowdfunding Campaign, supporters had already pledged more than £1,500 of the target of £5,000, organisers say.

The rewards on offer include courses in dairying and limited prints of artwork by dairymaid Kashia, though some donors chose to simply give, offering nothing in return.

If the campaign achieves more than £5,000, then the funds will help it to expand. If it does not achieve £5,000, the dairy will receive nothing.

The herd consists of 11 milking cows and their calves.

The Calf at Foot Dairy Jersey herd, made up of 11 milking cows and their calves, is 100% grass-fed and the calves remain with their mothers.
