Hundreds of people have descended on a popular park as displays, exhibits and fun for all ages attract the crowds.

The 44th Grand Henham Steam Rally has started in style as an 'enjoyable weekend' is showcased at Henham Park, near Southwold.

With record numbers of steam exhibits being showcased this year, the rally committee have launched a new initiative – with the chance for memebers of the public to get behind the wheel of a steam engine for the first time in the event's history.

The public steering sessions proved popular as they were showcased in the Len Murray Arena – and this will take place again on Sunday morning.

Helen Walker, rally chairman, said: 'With an increasing number of steam exhibitors, we felt it made complete sense to to showcase some of these incredible machines.

'We have more exhibitors this year and for the start of the event on a Saturday morning, we have already been quite busy. We are hoping for good weather and this is perfect at the moment.'

Organisers are promising a fantastic family day out – with exciting displays and parades as well as unusual animal attractions alongside the steam exhibits.

The Len Murray Arena will also feature the Dog and Duck Show as well as another new display this year – steam roller barrel rolling.

There are also hundreds of vintage, classic and modified vehicles and working steam engines on display alongside live music, the Ken Fox Wall of Death, a vintage fairground, children's entertainment and numerous trade stalls and crafts.
