A bicycle believed to belong to missing Ipswich man Gavin Francis has been found near the Orwell Bridge.

The bike was discovered yesterday, although no trace of Mr Francis was found during a search of the River Orwell, coastguards and police have said.

The 44-year-old was reported missing by his family after not being seen since around 5.45pm on New Year’s Eve when he left his home address in Purdis Farm to go for a bike ride.

Mr Francis is described as white, 6ft tall, of average build, with dark brown receding hair, blue eyes and is clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a navy blue lycra cycling top with a white stripe down the side and navy blue lycra cycling shorts.

Police are appealing for Mr Francis or anyone who knows where he is to get in contact immediately.
