A member of staff at Ipswich Hospital is believed to have been sacked and another issued with a written warning after accessing Ed Sheeran’s personal details with no legitimate reason, according to the BBC.
Two members of staff were allegedly disciplined for the breach, which is believed to have happened when Ed Sheeran said he was admitted to the hospital after a bicycle accident in October last year.
The Suffolk star said he was treated for a broken wrist and elbow, and was forced to cancel a number of shows in Asia while he recovered.
The hospital was unable to confirm or deny the breach, or the fact that Ed was treated there, due to patient confidentiality rules.
The BBC said the hospital confirmed in a Freedom of Information response that two staff had “accessed patient information without legitimate or clinical reason”.
The news comes after Ipswich Hospital conducted a review into caring for ‘high profile’ patients shortly after the star said he was admitted there.
It followed reports that Sheeran was asked for autographs and photos by some hospital staff.
A hospital spokesperson said at the time of the review: “Like all hospitals, we have policies safeguarding confidentiality of all patients.
“If someone has a high profile because of the job or role, we have a protocol that has been in place for quite some time.
“In November, it came up for review, and a team of clinicians are currently reviewing this protocol.”
