Ipswich: Man charged with burglary after raid on town centre jeweller’s nets thousands of pounds worth of valuables

A 49-year-old man has appeared before Ipswich magistrates charged with a burglary at a town centre jewellers in which items worth thousands of pounds were stolen.

John Harden, of Foundation Street in Ipswich, was arrested in the early hours of March 12 in connection with the break-in at J G Andrews in the Buttermarket around 3.30am.

During the smash-and-grab raid high value rings and Christening bracelets were taken along with other items.

Harden was initially questioned before being released on bail pending further enquiries.

He was charged with burglary on Friday night and remanded in custody before his appearance before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.

Harden’s case was committed to Ipswich Crown Court.

His next scheduled hearing is due to take place on Tuesday, May 13.
