KIND-hearted students are hoping to make Christmas better for deprived children.

Pupils at Northgate High School, in Ipswich, are taking part in this year’s Operation Christmas Child to send special shoebox gifts.

Year Seven and Year 12 pupils have managed to fill and wrap 90 shoeboxes to be sent off to Belarus and Swaziland.

The school’s sixth form charity committee encouraged students to raise money for the postage of the boxes and collected more than £130.

Year 12 committee member Chloe Mayall said: “Being part of the charity committee has been a great opportunity for me and being involved with the shoebox appeal was a wonderful experience.”

The boxes were filled with items such as toothbrushes, soap and toys for children of all ages.

Tourism leaders in Suffolk have teamed up to entice high-spending younger visitors to the county and place it on their “must-visit” list.

Police in Essex would like to speak to 26-year-old Jake Cooper in connection to a theft from a Co-op store in Harwich.

A senior Essex police officer did hurl a stress ball at a colleague’s throat, a misconduct hearing has ruled.

A 79-year-old man has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a Land Rover in Ipswich.

Residents and councillors have vowed to fight a decision which will see historic archives from Lowestoft and the surrounding area stripped from the town.

A toddler has been rushed to hospital after a serious crash in Barningham this morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses after three women had their purses stolen from supermarkets in the Ipswich and Martlesham areas on Tuesday.
