Comic Relief Trustee Emma Freud, who has a home in Suffolk, welcomed the EADT’s involvement in the charity – and also took the opportunity to praise the newspaper.

Speaking to editor Terry Hunt on BBC Radio Suffolk, the celebrity said: “There some incredible projects all over the county doing some wonderful things. I hope you find some great things to support and I love the way we’re channelling it through the local newspaper because you guys have your ears to the ground all the time.”

She added: “I spend half my time in London and half in Suffolk. When I’m in London I read the national newspapers and become increasingly depressed.

“Every time I come to Suffolk I read the EADT and it puts joy and life back into my soul. You report on everything that’s happening, not just the grim parts of our existence, and it’s such a wonderful thing to read your paper which is such a celebration as well as everything else that it does of the incredible county.”
