Ipswich: Charity clothing thieves once again raid donation bin at Sainsbury’s

CHARITY clothing thieves have struck yet again, stealing donations from the Oxfam containers outside Sainsbury’s in Warren Heath.
It is understood the large locked bins containing clothing have been targeted around a dozen times in the past few months by the same group of men.
The gang, which is thought to have committed similar thefts in other areas outside Suffolk, appear to know the combinations for the lock on the containers.
Following the latest theft, one source said: “It’s getting beyond a joke.”
Last month police were called to the site after at least two men were seen acting suspiciously in the area.
However, officers approached them and took their names, but did not detain them as nothing had been taken.
Three days later the same people are believed to have returned to steal clothing from the banks.
The latest theft took place at 12.45am on January 8.
Anne-marie Breach, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary said officers are linking all the late-night thefts.
A dark-red or burgundy people-carrier was seen to enter the superstore’s car park, before the men unlocked the charity bins at the rear of the store and emptied the contents. They then drove off.
The previous theft occurred around 12.25am on December 17.
It is understood those involved in the raid on the containers fitted the same descriptions and were driving the same type of maroon people-carrier as the men who previously had their names taken by police.
The men were seen on CCTV approaching the containers and appeared to look inside, before getting a vehicle to come over, loading it, and driving off.
On December 14 a people carrier was seen in the area of the clothes bank and men were seen acting in a suspicious manner.

The most surprising part of the story is that since so much was known about the robberies, the number of times that they have occurred, the methods used, the names of at least 2 of the suspects and the colour and type of the vehicle used, that no one has yet been arrested.
