A FIRE has been started deliberately in an Ipswich churchyard.

At 9.30am a member of the public called the fire service to report a blaze near St Mary-le-Tower in Tower Street.

One crew from Princes Street Fire Station was sent to deal with the incident, which involved a mattress, blankets and clothing.

The flames were out by 9.41am and firefighters said the blaze had been started deliberately and the matter was reported to the police.
