A MAN currently serving a prison term for burglary has been jailed for 12 months for two offences of handling stolen goods.

Michael Vincent, 39, of Roundwood Road, Ipswich, admitted two offences of handling stolen goods, including a watch, a necklace and a jemmy on January 7 this year and was jailed for 12 months.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Vincent was jailed for three years in April for burglary and theft.

The 12-month sentence will run concurrently with that sentence from yesterday.

Sentencing Vincent, Judge Peter Thompson said the handling offences were committed in the middle of the offences which he admitted earlier in the year and could have been dealt with at the same time.

However, he said Vincent had chosen not to face up to these offences then and would therefore have to serve longer in prison.

Christopher Paxton for Vincent accepted his client had a very poor record.

He said Vincent had battled with addiction and in the summer of last year had got himself clean and found work on a building site.

However the work had dried up in the run up to Christmas and although he hadn’t slipped back into addiction he had fallen back into his old ways of “making a quick buck” and had handled the stolen goods which were worth a couple of hundred pounds.
