INJURED Ipswich Town striker Paul Taylor is today at the centre of a police inquiry after a bar brawl which left two members of staff with broken bones.

The 25-year-old joined Town from Saturday’s opponents Peterborough United in August, at a cost of £1.5million.

Two members of staff, believed to be door staff, at the Robert Ransome pub in Tower Street, Ipswich, were injured – one suffering a broken rib and the other a fractured eye socket and broken finger – in a fracas which allegedly took place in the early hours of October 16.

Taylor, who launched his career as a youth player at Manchester City, and a 24-year-old woman from Liverpool were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

They have been released on police bail while investigations continue and are both due to return to Suffolk Constabulary on January 16.

Taylor is expected to miss the rest of this season after breaking his foot in the game against Wolves – his third appearance for the Tractor Boys.

An ITFC spokesman told the East Anglian Daily Times: “We are aware of an alleged incident that took place in the town recently involving one of our players that is currently being investigated by the police.

“We are in communication with the police authorities over this matter but will be making no further comment at this stage.”

It would not be the first time that Liverpool-born Taylor had been in trouble.

Four years ago, when he was playing for Chester City, he was banned from playing for six months after traces of cocaine were found in a random drugs sample.

He moved to Belgian lower league side Montegnée before moving to Anderlecht in December 2009.

He returned to England, joining Peterborough in February last year.

JD Wetherspoon, the company which owns the Robert Ransome pub, declined to comment.
