He was walking in an alleyway in Back Hamlet at about 7pm on Thursday when he heard a voice from behind say “give me your phone.” He turned around and saw a man holding a knife and another man standing behind him.

The victim handed over the phone and then the offender with the knife asked for his wallet. The victim tried to run away, but lost his footing and fell to the floor. He threw the wallet at the men and both offenders ran off towards Kings Avenue. The wallet contained cards and an amount of cash.

The victim sustained a cut to the head and grazing to his elbow as a result of the fall. The offender, who was holding the knife, is described as a man of a slim to medium build, aged in his mid-thirties, about six-foot tall and was wearing a dark coloured waterproof jacket.

The second offender is described as about 5’10” tall.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to call Ipswich police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  • Another day, another street robbery. It used to be safe to walk around the town. Not any more.

  • In fact there is a footpath that runs from back hamlet towards Kings Avenue. It is between the park and he college. The site of the college used to be a slum housing area called The Potteries. There was a main road through where the college now stands. Back in the 1800's the policemen had to patrol this area in 2's as it was a very dodgy area. Perhaps nothing changes.
