Archant

BURNED out furniture filled the front garden of a house destroyed by fire.

The semi-detached home in Ely Road, Ipswich, was ravaged by flames which tore through the property and left a resident needing oxygen treatment.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service received multiple emergency 999 calls reporting the fire and despatched two crews from Princes Street to the address, near Northgate High School, at around 3.20pm.

Watch commander Dale Mason requested a further fire appliance from Ipswich East after discovering the property was “well alight”.

Firefighters used two hosereels and two jets to extinguish the flames by 4.10pm and assess the extent of the damage.

They then ventilated the property, which has been badly damaged by flames and smoke, and damped down any hotspot.

Fire crews requested the assistance of the East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) for a 42-year-old man who suffered smoke inhalation.

It is unknown at this stage what caused the blaze to break out.
