Detectives investigating report of a rape in Ipswich issue CCTV still of man they wish to identify

Officers were alerted to the incident by the Town Pastors, as they had been approached by a member of the public who had in turn spoken to a distressed woman.

The woman reported being raped by a man in an alleyway off a car park off Lower Brook Street at around 2.35am on Sunday, April 20.

Officers have carried out a number of enquiries, spoken to witnesses who had been in the area around the time the rape occurred and have trawled through CCTV covering the area.

An image of a man has been captured at 2.40am along Upper Brook Street, just past the junction with Dogs Head Street and Tacket Street. Police are now issuing this image as they are seeking to identify and trace this man.

The victim has described the man as black, around 40-years-old, between 5ft 10ins and 5ft 11ins, of average build, short and straight black hair, with a white/grey beard coming down from his side burns and a deep voice.

He was wearing a long sleeved dark blue denim top.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ipswich Gemini Team on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
