A power cut affected businesses and homes in Ipswich earlier this evening, with cinema-goers reporting interruptions to their viewing as the venue was plunged into darkness.

UK Power Networks reported an outage affecting the IP1 1 and IP4 postcodes from 9pm, which has since been repaired.

Cineworld in Cardinal Park was one of the businesses reportedly affected by the lack of power.

One cinema-goer said: “We were just sitting down to watch Non-Stop, and it stopped.

“The power cut and we were asked to make our way to the nearest exits.

“We’ve all been offered complimentary tickets and the staff were great.”

  • We had a power surge in IP3 at 9pm and it's blown my broadband box up! :(

  • Disgruntled Docker....that's why you should invest in some surge protection sockets for valuable sensitive electronics. '

  • Yeah. Everything dimmed but nothing damaged for me. TV went very dim but didn't turn off. PC on the other hand rebooted. Wonder if this little surge was the cause or effect of the wider power cut?

  • I wonder how much the outage has cost cineworld and whether the power company would shell-out for it.

  • I managed to survive it - lights dimmed a bit, thats it. I am sure the anonymous cinema-goer comment was made up... the irony of them showing a movie called Non-Stop and the power just going. The cinema is so expensive why don't they have an industrial UPS battery backup system?

  • Cinema plunged into darkness. Pretty normal for film goers I'd suggest.
