A MAN serving a prison term for rapes in Ipswich dating back to the late 1980s and early 1990s today admitted carrying out another sex attack more than 20 years ago.

Phil Collins was jailed in 2010 for ten years for the sexual assault of a 17-year-old in Gippeswyk Park in January 1990.

And then in October 2011, the 53-year-old was sentenced to 13-and-a-half years for the rape of a woman in her home in the Christchurch Park are of the town in March 1987. He also received an eight-year concurrent sentence for indecently assaulting the woman.

Today, Collins was sentenced to a further four-year concurrent prison term for carrying out a sex attack on a 19-year-old woman in South Ockendon on Bank Holiday Monday, May 27 1991.

Collins, who was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court, was arrested in prison by detectives from Essex Police’s Cold Case Investigation Team in October last year.

Referring to his latest conviction, Detective Inspector Jo Williams, from Essex Police, said: “The victim is extremely relieved that at last the man who attacked her has been identified and has today admitted his guilt.

“She is grateful that her case was never closed and is thankful that she will not have to give evidence and can finally get on with her life.”

Collins was formerly known as Philip Treble.
