KIND-hearted students are hoping to make Christmas better for deprived children.

Pupils at Northgate High School, in Ipswich, are taking part in this year’s Operation Christmas Child to send special shoebox gifts.

Year Seven and Year 12 pupils have managed to fill and wrap 90 shoeboxes to be sent off to Belarus and Swaziland.

The school’s sixth form charity committee encouraged students to raise money for the postage of the boxes and collected more than £130.

Year 12 committee member Chloe Mayall said: “Being part of the charity committee has been a great opportunity for me and being involved with the shoebox appeal was a wonderful experience.”

The boxes were filled with items such as toothbrushes, soap and toys for children of all ages.
