A FORMER assistant head teacher of one of Suffolk’s top schools has appeared in court charged with making more than 44,000 child porn images.

William Stansbury is facing five charges relating the period between April 2005 and August 2012.

The 45-year-old, who taught at Ipswich School in Henley Road, Ipswich, made his first appearance on the allegations before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court yesterday.

Stansbury, formerly of Dock Street, Stokebridge Maltings, Ipswich, did not enter a plea during the hearing.

Prosecutor Emma Howson said the allegations involved 44,132 images. These allegedly ranged from those in the least serious grading for child pornography to others in the most serious categories.

Stansbury was released on conditional bail until February 11, when the case is due to be committed to Ipswich Crown Court.
