Make some noise for the Tractor Boys!


That is the message from the Portman Road fans today ahead of Ipswich Town’s crucial match at home tomorrow, with the Blues on the verge of finishing the season in the Championship play-offs.

Following a superb run of games packed with dramatic last-minute goals and hard-fought wins, Town find themselves in eighth place with five games to go – perfectly poised to fight for a spot in the Premier League in the play-offs.

With Reading, currently sixth and two points ahead of Town, not playing until Monday, a win for Mick McCarthy’s side could put them in pole position.

Ipswich fans Tom Leech, 29, and Chris Parry, 46, bought their tickets for the pivotal match against Doncaster Rovers yesterday.

“Mick has done a great job and hopefully the fans will get behind the team on Saturday,” Tom said, while Chris predicted a 2-0 home win.

Town were relegated from the Premier League in 2002 and was last reached the Championship play-offs in 2005.

Liz Edwards, chairman of the Ipswich Town Supporters Club, said the fans can play a key role in keeping alive the Blues’ promotion dream.

“If we make the kind of noise that greeted our late winner against Derby recently, then I hope the roof is well secured,” she said.

The home support will be boosted by around 3,000 children after they took advantage of a free offer from the club.

An Ipswich Town spokesman said: “The atmosphere at Portman Road has been terrific recently. We could be in the top six come the final whistle and the fans can play a big part in that.”

The match will kick-off at 3.07pm after a minute’s silence at 3.06pm in honour of the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster 25 years ago.
