Tributes and flowers have been left outside UCS on the Ipswich Waterfront in memory to the boy who died there on Saturday morning.

Tributes and flowers have been left outside UCS on the Ipswich Waterfront in memory to the boy who died there on Saturday morning.

Heartfelt tributes were last night paid to an Ipswich man who died after the motorcycle he was travelling on collided with railings and glass outside the UCS building on the Waterfront.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene just before 3am on Saturday but despite attempts to resuscitate the rider, named by police as Rhys Lungley, he died shortly after arriving at Ipswich Hospital.

Yesterday, loved ones and colleagues of the 20-year-old, from Ipswich, gathered at the scene of the incident to pay their respects, with many leaving messages and flowers.

Among the poignant tributes left at the scene was: “You were such a sweet lad Rhys, so many will miss you. Never forgotten.”

Another read: “I will miss you everyday.”

A Facebook tribute page has also been set up in memory of Mr Lungley, with friends describing him as a ‘wonderful man’.

One message said: “You were one of the most amazing, trustworthy, loyal friends I could ever ask for. Going to miss you so much.”

Investigations are now continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police had been made aware of a motorbike riding through the town centre at high speed 15 minutes before the single-vehicle collision incident on the Waterfront, which involved a Yamaha DT 125 bike.

On Saturday afternoon, Suffolk Constabulary announced that the matter will be passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said this was because of the police presence in the area at the time of the incident and that it is usual procedure in such circumstances.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the bike travelling through the town or who witnessed the actual collision.

Calls should be made to the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police on 101

You can pay tribute to Rhys by sending an email to or by calling 01473 324788.

The family of Rhys Lungley have paid tribute the 20-year-old, more here.

  • 'In memory of the boy who died' - change it to the 'man who died' - it's a small thing but I wouldn't want someone to think of this young man as a boy (unless it's his parents and family). Not a newspaper. My respect to everyone who is hurt by this terrible accident
