The youngsters were placed on spinal boards and taken to Ipswich Hospital after the crash in Meredith Road at around 3.25pm.

It is thought they were walking home from nearby Whitton Community Primary School.

  • Ruth - do you walk around with your eyes closed?! It's not just Whitton, it's everywhere all over the country that parents allow their children out in their own. No-one has said this is what had happened in this incident but it DOES happen. Actually maybe you are right.........I think it's 6 they're allowed out to run around on their own!

  • The parents were there with their children the whole time.alot of these comments are disgusting just because a stigma attached to Whitton and people on it not 1 person living here would leave a 5 year old to walk home alone ridiculous thing to say.whitton is a lovely place with a great community spirit and I've met the nicest people since moving here so stop judging just on an old reputation.hope the 2 little boys will both be okay and make a full recovery

  • This is in the top five most read for one reason only the word Whitton was in the headline. I would not have bothered reading until I saw the location. (lived there for 25 years ) before you all start biting my head off!!

  • Was you there? The poor ambulance staff did this to appease, the situation was very quickly escalating into something rather unsightly. The medics saved a mini Whitton riot. Obviously a trained member of the service would never take advice from the public (unless it was from a bona fide source), they are trained to deal with a hostile environment and dealt with it in a professional manner. Believing that they genuinely took advice from whittoners, jeez you're a sucker.

  • Megan, believe me there are plenty of kids of this age that are sent off on their own to and from school. We see it all the time, although I am not saying this is one of those cases. Saying that, I hope the boys are ok.

  • What a load of old tosh!! since when did the medic profession take tips from "over excited locals who forced the services to use the boards" That aside i hope the little lads are ok and the parents were present?

  • My dad was near it at the time. He says that the kids were fine and just frightened, apparently it was some over excited locals who forced the services to use the boards.

  • I agree with Megan. I do hope that those 5yr ols werent walking home without a parent or guardian, the story either needs to be told in full or not at all, a half story just leads to people jumping to conclusions. Either way i wish them both a speedy recovery.

  • It concerns me that there has been no mention of the parents whereabouts in this article...Who leaves their 5 year old child to walk home alone? However, if the parents were present, I apologise, and maybe Archant should have mentioned it before anyone else picks up on it.
