Two women have been charged with assault as a result of an alleged scuffle at East Coast Live event at Chantry Park in Ipswich.

Lara Allison and Helen Sparrow were among three people who were arrested following an incident which occurred in the pit area at the front of the stage.

A 25-year-old man from Ipswich was also detained on suspicion of a public order, but was not charged, according to police.

The altercation occurred around the time all-girl group The Saturday’s set was coming to an end.

Despite the incident, which occurred on Saturday at 7pm, police were keen to stress the two-day music festival passed off peacefully given the 50,000-plus attendance over the weekend.

The were five arrests in total including two other relating to people who were said to be drunk and disorderly.

Allison, of no fixed address, was charged with common assault. She was also charged with obstructing a police constable, assaulting a police constable and using threatening behavour, a spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said.

The 28-year-old was due to appear before Ipswich magistrates today.

Sparrow, of London Road, Ipswich, was also charged with four offences.

She was accused of two counts of common assault, one charge of obstructing/resisting a police officer and another allegation of using threatening behaviour.

Sparrow was released on bail until her scheduled appearance before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court on July 14.

Simon Stevens, a spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary, said: “We are pleased with the way the event was organised and that it passed off relatively peacefully with a vast majority of people enjoying it in a sensible manner.”

East Coast Live proved extremely popuplar and featured Jessie J, Jason Derulo, Union J, and McBusted.
